Laser treatment worked where Loceryl failed

Laser treatment worked where Loceryl failed

This is a case study on a patient that I originally saw in October 2010,  his presenting complaint was a Left “Big toe nail that is rotten”. On examination I noticed that the nail was infected with Nail fungus, the patient tells me that he has had this discolouration for approximately 2 years and that he has been using loceryl for the last 9 months with no change in the presentation of the nail.

This patient is a 70 Year old Male who tells me he suffers no major medical problems, he further states that he just wants to get rid of this unsightly infection to his nail.

We discussed all the treatments that were currently available including Loceryl, Lamisil Oral and Surgical Avulsion of the nail. I then told him about the latest form of treatment that I was using the “CoolTouch CoolBreeze laser”. We discussed the possible side effects of the oral medication and the pain that he would go through if we were to avulse the nail. We briefly discussed Loceryl which he had used with no success. The patient decided he would be one of my first patients with this new form of treatment.

We commenced his treatment in October 2010, we did 4 sessions of laser over a couple of months by month 4 we could see a definite clearing of the proximal end of the nail. By 9 months the fungus was totally resolved.

The patient was so happy he said he suffered only some minor discomfort during each treatment, however this did not last very long.  He just wishes he had consulted me prior to wasting $100 on Loceryl.

If you have problems with Fungal nail infections and would like them treated call the clinic today for a consultation.
